On September 26, 2026, a cultural exchange of the Chinanization of Christianity in sacred music in Jinshan District, Shanghai, was held at Shihua Street Lin’en Church. A total of 380 people attended, including pastors, co-workers, and choir members from churches across Jinshan District, as well as the members of the Second Session of the Lay Volunteer Training Program.
The exchange began with a lecture on the Chinanization of Christianity in sacred music, moderated by Rev. Ruan Enrong, Director of Jinshan CC&TSPM.
Hao Junhua, a vocal instructor at East China Theological Seminary, traced the historical development of sacred music and discussed the growth of grassroots church choirs, helping participants gain a deeper understanding of contemporary significance of the Chinanization of Christianity in sacred music through theoretical instruction, musical appreciation, and live demonstrations.
Church choirs performed sacred music characterized by Chinese elements. The songs incorporated traditional Chinese melodies, while the lyrics highlighted the love for the country and the church, solidarity, and mutual help.
