On the afternoon of January 17, 2024, Rev. Wu Wei, President of CCC, and Rev. Shan Weixiang, residential Vice Chairperson of National TSPM, received a batch of eight led by Rev. Tong Wing Mun, President of the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong (BCHK).

Both Rev. Wu and Rev. Shan mentioned the good communication with BCHK during the visit to Hong Kong last year, and extended warm welcome towards their visit to CCC&TSPM. Rev. Shan was the moderator of the meeting.

Rev. Wu narrated the journey for the Church in China to the Three-Self patriotic path; briefly introduced the decades of efforts made by the Church in China to gradually eliminate the image of Christianity as a “foreign religion” among the Chinese people, and shared the connotation, goals and ministries with regard to the Chinanization of Christianity. Rev. Wu referred that given the churches in the mainland of China and Hong Kong share a common Chinese cultural background, there were both differences and commonalities in their development. More opportunities for exchanges in the future were expected, so that we can share experience with each other, make progress together, and better serve God and our congregations.

Rev. Tong Wing Mun shared the experience of Hong Kong churches to eradicate the image of “foreign churches” and to make Christianity become adaptive for social progress. Rev. Tong looked forward to strengthening exchanges and deepening cooperation between the two sides in the future.

Rev. Shan introduced to the guests the departments of CCC&TSPM, the current ministries and the challenges nowadays, while Rev. Lee Kuo Hsiung, General Secretary of BCHK, shared their ministries. Topics such as church pastoral care, talent training, and post-pandemic challenges for churches were discussed during the meeting.

Following the meeting, the delegation visited the Grace Telling Bookshop and Holy Trinity Church with great interest. The delegation would go to Nanjing to continue their visits.

Ms. Gu Jingqin, the interim chief of Overseas Relations Department of CCC&TSPM, and other staff attended the meeting.
