From June 18 to 25, 2025, Rev. Dr. Lin Manhong, vice president and general secretary of CCC, and Ms. Gu Jingqin, interim chief of Overseas Relations Department of CCC&TSPM, attended the 70th Central Committee Meeting of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Prior to the Central Committee Meeting, Rev. Dr. Lin also participated in the two-day Executive Committee Meeting.
Navigated by the theme “Dare to Embrace Hope in Struggles and Challenges”, the assembly gathered 150 official representatives and over 200 consultant fellow workers globally to discuss faith practices and contemporary challenges. The agenda focused on planning for “A Decade of Actions on Climate Justice”, preparations for the 1700th Anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, and other church ministries. Dialogues were also established on the testimonies of peace in conflict areas, racial equality, and others, which reaffirmed the principle of practicing justice rooted in the gospel and the faith accountability of being the light and salt of the earth.
Two representatives from the Church in China intensively engaged in various sessions and proposed sensible suggestions during the discussions. Between the sessions, the two representatives interacted with the members of the World Communion of Reformed Church, the Swiss Federation of Protestant Churches, the Uniting Church in Australia, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, the Church of Norway, and etc. Grounded in the fellowship in Christ, the interactions strengthened the bonds of kinship in the Lord.
