On the morning of September 2, 2026, Guangdong Union Theological Seminary held an opening ceremony for the 2026-2027 academic year at Union Church. Officials from the Guangdong Provincial Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission, the leadership of Guangdong CC&TSPM, and the seminary’s faculty members and students attended the ceremony.
Rev. Cai Jianwei, Vice President and Academic Dean of the seminary, presided over the ceremony. Rev. Yang Yongchun, General Secretary of Guangdong CC and Office Director of the seminary, offered the opening prayer. Dr. Wu Ning, Vice President of the seminary, read a Scripture passage.
Rev. Huang Tianhua, Director of the seminary’s Research Center on the Chinanization of Christianity, gave an exhortation. Drawing on the example of athletics, Rev. Huang encouraged students to discipline themselves, remain mindful of their original calling to study theology, and set clear spiritual goals.
Rev. Cai Bosheng, President of the seminary, delivered a speech. He reviewed the seminary’s 112-year history and its development since reopening four decades ago. Rev. Cai encouraged students to take root in God’s word, become workers who rightly handle the word of truth, cultivate Christian character as a useful vessel, and respond faithfully to the needs of the times by shouldering pastoral and social responsibilities.
Rev. Xu Jieping, Executive Vice Chairperson and Executive President of Guangdong CC&TSPM, affirmed the seminary’s achievements in theological education and the Reconstruction of Theological Thinking. Rev. Xu also encouraged students to cherish their campus life and consolidate their faith and knowledge.
The ceremony concluded with a benediction offered by Vice President Rev. Chen Suisheng.
In the afternoon, the seminary offered an orientation program to help new students adjust to campus life, covering academic policies, student services, library resources, and common procedures.
