CCC&TSPM Attends Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches’ First Assembly

From June 11 to 16, 2024, a delegation from CCC&TSPM, led by Rev. Xu Xiaohong, Chairperson of National TSPM, went to Egypt to attend the First Assembly of the Global South Fellowship of Anglican Churches (GSFA). During the visit, the delegation not only strengthened the ties with GSFA and the Bible Society of Egypt, but also demonstrated the development and unique characteristics of the Church in China. This exchange also helped to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and the South-South Cooperation, and contributed to the independence and self-governance, the Chinanization of Christianity, and the sharing of positive testimonies of the Churches in China.



The GSFA First Assembly that convened in Egypt from June 11 to 15, was attended by 200 Anglican leaders from 40 countries, including 13 Anglican Province leaders, 44 bishops, 46 ministers, and 36 lay leaders. The theme of the assembly was “To Be a Light to the Nations”. It aimed to inspire Christians worldwide to remain steadfast in their commitment to proclaiming the gospel, upholding orthodox doctrines, defending the truth, and maintaining traditional Christian values.

Other members of the CCC&TSPM delegation included Rev. Geng Weizhong, Vice President of CCC, Rev. Li Yungen, Chairperson of Jiangxi TSPM, and Ms. Ye Ting, Associate General Secretary of Guangzhou CC. In his speech, Rev. Xu emphasized the enduring friendly and close interactions between the Church in China and GSFA. He shared the experience of Chinese churches regarding the Chinanization of Christianity and the Three-Self Principles, highlighting how the universal Christian faith had taken root in various ethnic cultures and social contexts and had drawn nourishment from local cultures with renewed vigor.



During the assembly, the Chinese delegation received warm receptions from many GSFA leaders, and engaged in exchanges with church leaders from many African countries.

The delegation also visited the Bible Society of Egypt and were warmly received by the General Secretary. The Bible Society of Egypt expressed admiration and appreciation for the development and achievements made by the Church in China under the country’s policy on religious freedom, and hoped to further promote the cultural exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in the future.
