On June 9, 2026, Zhongnan Theological Seminary held the undergraduate thesis defense for the Class of 2026 in the lecture hall of the new campus. It was attended by the faculty and students of the graduating class, as well as the third-year undergraduates who sat in as observers. The defense was well-organized and proceeded in a good order.
The review panel consisted of the seminary’s own teachers, scholars from other institutions, and church leaders. The defense was divided into two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Rev. Zhao Qiufen, Vice President of the seminary and Dean of Academic Affairs, introduced the procedure and requirements, and the defense strictly followed the steps of presentation, questioning, response, and feedback.
The theses covered a wide range of topics, including “The Values of Humility: A Comparative Study of Zhou Gong and Jesus”, “Chinese Ancestor Worship: Insights from the Qing Dynasty Rites Controversy”, etc. Drawing on their understanding of systematic theology, biblical theology, church history, and practical theology, the graduates presented their findings.
The review panel posed questions focusing on the topics, argumentation logic, doctrinal interpretation, and practical application, and offered professional suggestions for revision.
The panel also fully affirmed the defense, noting that the theses were wide-ranging, well-referenced, and relevant to the times. The graduates conducted themselves appropriately during the defense, demonstrating a solid academic spirit.
