From November 20 to 25, 2025, the World Council of Churches (WCC) convened its executive committee meeting in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, at the invitation of CCC&TSPM.
Twenty-five members of the WCC executive committee attended the meeting. Rev. Xu Xiaohong, Chairperson of the National TSPM, Rev. Wu Wei, President of the CCC, and Imam Yang Faming, President of the China Islamic Association, participated in the opening ceremony.
The six-day meeting featured thematic lectures on “Post-Denominational Theological Thinking and Church Practice” and “Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development”, five morning prayers, and exchange sessions showcasing church ministries with Chinese characteristics. The discussion centered on the further contextualization of Christianity in China, interfaith dialogue, theological education, pastoral care, and so forth.
This meeting served as a platform for deepened exchanges between Chinese churches and global churches. It also provided an opportunity to showcase the wisdom and strength of Chinese churches to the international community, as well as its policy on freedom of religious belief and the progress achieved in the Chinanization of Christianity.
The WCC was officially founded in 1948, with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. It was one of the first NGOs that established consultative status with the UN.
